Ay Nicaragüa Nicaragüita

From April 25th to April 27th, the V FICCUA (Interuniversity Festival of Central American Culture and Art) was celebrated in Nicaragua.

I went to dance :D :D :D with Danzú, we danced a choreography called “Aquella” that we worked on for about a month, there were 10 dancers plus José (the director).

There were around 200 Costa Ricans, mostly from UCR, UNA, UNED, and ITCR, and there were people from all over Central America, as well as Cuba and Venezuela.

It was a pretty interesting experience, we went by bus, a very long trip, I was very tired, and to make things worse, when I arrived at the hotel, I didn’t feel very well, to cut the story short, I ended up in the hospital :( :( :( :( only for a few hours, but it’s definitely not the kind of thing I would like to do again.

After that, we had a presentation at UNAN Managua, in a very large auditorium full of people, we were a bit nervous and the space was very difficult to manage, we didn’t do very well.

The second one was at the Managua Cultural Center, in a small theater, we rehearsed before the presentation, marked the space, changed some things, that time it went much better, Jose was quite happy (and also very sick :( ) and we were also very happy.

The last one was at UNAN again, people say that one was better than the first, but not as good as the second. I liked it the least: I made a lot of mistakes, and I got hurt all over :s. But well, the past is past and it’s only good to not make the same mistakes again.

It was a difficult trip, it was nice but I have to say, I’ve been this tired very few times in my life! It was too hot! We left the hotel at 9:00 am and didn’t come back until around 10 pm. We were always waiting and sometimes we didn’t know what we were waiting for, it rained during the inauguration, and we waited under the rain for half an hour!!! The food was not good at all, we were hungry and thirsty almost all the time. José and I ended up on Wednesday night at the Shell station eating canned soup!!!!!

Clearly, not everything was bad, I had a lot of fun with my friends, we danced, we laughed, I have good memories, good photos, and I saw many very good artistic presentations (and some not so good, I must say), I met good people, and I saw Mejia Godoy singing on the last day!!!!!

My hope is that these things make us come together (Central Americans), really see us as brothers and not mortal enemies, it’s incredible how similar we are, and how terrible we think of others or how we see ourselves, we are different only for good, to enrich our region with a wonderful culture, we should celebrate it! and not see each other with contempt, it’s very sad that this happens among brothers! we still don’t appreciate each other as we should.

Hopefully, someday we can sing together and from the bottom of our hearts: “I am Central American and for no reason will I leave this heart.”
