It's good to be a Ñoño
For my ñoño friends…
A few days ago, I told one of my friends that he was a “ñoño re ñoño”, and he showed me a link with an unfriendly definition of “ñoño”. To be honest, there are many negative definitions of “ñoño”, which make it seem like being a ñoño is something terrible, for example, the definition from the RAE.
If that’s the definition, then no one would want to be a ñoño. People usually associate ñoños (nerds) with those who are always studying, wear glasses, and are not very physically attractive, as some would say… well, I think you get the idea. People think that being a ñoño is not a good thing.
But for about four years now, I have been calling some of my friends ñoños, and even singing to them “ñoño re ñoño, ñoño cantor”. So, I want to give my own definition of ñoño, so they don’t think I’m saying they’re not very bright, so to speak :P.
A ñoño is someone who knows how to enjoy life, so they enjoy what they do, and that’s why they generally become very good at what they do. Generally, they know a lot about something, it could be music, ants, cooking, teeth, or (not so poetic, but still valid, and very common) computers!!!.
But they’re not afraid to say “I don’t know” when they don’t know… of course.
Sometimes they make small mistakes, like saying a phrase that nobody understands:
- My CPU is not working. (Referring to their brain)
- Bored++
- I’m in an infinite loop. (When they do something over and over again)
- It doesn’t compile for me. (When they don’t understand something)
They’re someone who, although life is not always rosy, will always share a smile if you need one. They’re someone who tries not to be a “wirwing” (and generally knows what that means :P). A ñoño generally admits that they are a nerd.
Ñoños dance to their own beat, they do whatever it takes for the things they really care about, they don’t forget their friends, they have big hearts, and they’re not afraid to share them.
This list is going to get really long… so I’ll just say… if you’re one of these ñoños, you’ll know that being a ñoño is a good thing.
