Christmas special

Well, it seems like December was a busy month because I didn’t publish anything here. It seems like my “inspiration” also went on vacation.

But these busy and crazy days at least left me some photos to share, about some of those things that make this time of year special, photos of those things that can’t be missing these days.

The first thing is to decorate the tree in front of my house (100% natural, a big tree, difficult to decorate). My job: find a ladder, climb up… and put the ornaments on the top!

Then, you have to decorate the office (with decorations “borrowed” from my Christmas tree at home :P)… yes, I know there are only 4 people in that office… but we all need a little Christmas spirit (even have to put a Christmas wallpaper)

Find a carol, download it, and try to cheer up those present by singing it :P “Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer…” (yes, I know that instead of cheering up, it may put everyone in a bad mood… but you can’t blame me for trying)

Then, something I had never done before, this year my first Christmas gift was a Nativity scene. I have to say that I really enjoyed putting it in the living room. At first, I thought that the whole set was going to fit in the little house that I bought, but in the end, it barely fit with a lake and everything. I also made the Nativity scene for my house in Naranjo. Everything turned out pretty well until my cat decided to be part of the scene…

By then it was already around December 17th. I think after that comes the gift shopping, something small to try to cheer up someone who needs it or just to let them know that you’re there… (Try not to get lost in the crazy crowds or in the tons of things you don’t need)

Hopefully, help my mom and sisters cook tamales. I don’t really like the mess, but in the end, it’s worth it. There’s nothing like a homemade tamale, especially if it’s my mom’s house. Cook something Christmas-y, for me it was minty chocolate Christmas cookies! (for others, getting a turkey drunk before eating it… family traditions)

Finally, Christmas Eve, the family gathered, going to church, praying, maybe a dinner… or maybe not… some go to bed early… others waiting to see who delivers gifts… calls… SMS messages (while they can still be sent)… until Christmas arrives… first the little ones opening gifts, asking for more gifts, excitement, laughter, curiosity, surprises… and after all, finally a little peace!

These are just some of the things I like to do during Christmas… I am particularly grateful for having people to share them with… for me, all the excitement of this time is being able to share… decorating wouldn’t be the same without anyone to help or see the decorations, it’s not as nice to cook if there’s no one who wants to eat the food…

This year I had all my family, my boyfriend, and many friends to wish them a Merry Christmas, so it was a pretty happy Christmas… I hope that whatever you did for Christmas, you enjoyed it and I hope you had a peaceful and very Merry Christmas.
