What's gonna happen to us?

As it is commented around the world, tomorrow the Costa Ricans are supposed to make a decision as a people, protected by democracy, and everyone talks about how honorable it is that this happens in our country, how we are an example, and many other things. That’s what I have read, but I am sure there will be articles that say the opposite.

And that eternal contradiction is what leads me to write this post. I am tired (I am not saying that I am not going to vote, that would be worse), I am so disappointed and now I am just scared.

Why? For this darn referendum, there have been mostly attacks from one side to the other, most of the time without any sense or relevance. At the end of the day, the impression I get is that I live in a country half capitalist pigs who only care about their own interests, half vagrants, bureaucrats, who do not want to work.

That’s what I’ve heard over and over again, it makes me sad! I know that’s not true. First of all, we cannot make generalizations, much less such sad and hateful ones. What is going to happen to this country??? Regardless of who wins? Those are the only two options?? A country with wealth accumulated in few hands or a country where nobody does anything? How depressing!

That’s why we are in such a bad situation! Because of the lack of tolerance, the incapacity to see that differences are strengths, not obstacles, that diversity is where the true richness lies. Because we are blind and we do not see that if we do not reach unity, there will be no Virgin of the Angels to save us!! (I would take this opportunity to say that unity should not only be in Costa Rica but in Latin America, but I better not risk crucifixion.)

But I bet there are people much more educated and intelligent than me who have been saying the same thing for many years, and we are still fighting over vanities we all know about… Proof of this is once again the lack of real arguments that were present in the respective campaigns… Hearts dancing when the people need information!!! But do you think the European Union is a coincidence… mmmmmm NO!

I hope it’s not too late when we realize that we are all in the same boat, and if we don’t work together, it will sink or not withstand the warming, however we want to see it. Drop by drop the sea is made… everyone can contribute, given the situation… if we help our neighbor, in the end we help ourselves… In the end, there won’t be money to save us, the same sad destiny awaits us, whether we are big or small, Chinese or Costa Rican, Indian or American, men or women, rich or poor, employees or employers… it’s the same boat… we are all going down!! :(
