One day the dwarves....

The first book I read at the age of 7 was about the adventures of the famous Gulliver. The first story of my Gulliver book was about Gulliver’s visit to Lilliput…the dwarves attacked him, became friends with Gulliver, and Gulliver saved them from war, becoming a hero…

Perfect for my seven years… however, at 23 I have to sadly say that my good friend Joaquín Sabina is right about what would happen if Gulliver stayed in Lilliput in his song Gulliver:

One day the dwarves will rebel against Gulliver…

all the small-hearted men armed

with sticks and sickles will attack the only giant

with their little spears

The sad reality is that generally, anyone who is different will be attacked, rejected. The mass of all those who look alike, all those who think or pretend to think like the majority will unite against those who manage to stand out.

It is like a disease that afflicts us, that impossibility of rejoicing in the success of another, that need to bring down those who manage to rise above us and often even that obsession to take possession of the exploits of others. Gulliver rescued the dwarves from their enemies… undoubtedly the king took advantage of it to appear more glorious than Gulliver, saying that it was his idea to use the giant…

They will accuse you, they will accuse you, they will accuse you:

of being the one-eyed man in the country of the blind,

of being the one who speaks in the country of the mute,

of being the crazy one in the country of the sane,

of walking in the country of the tired,

of being wise in the country of fools,

of being bad in the country of the good,

of having fun in the country of the serious,

of being free in the country of the imprisoned,

of being alive in the country of the dwarves,

of being the voice that cries out in the desert,

This is one more of our ills as evolved primates… this is one more with which we have to fight those who believe that we can be something more than simple primates, one more of the obstacles that we have to face every day those who believe in the possibility of being human… and of course, once we have overcome the dwarf complex… we will have to fight against the dwarves that still remain…
